Dean was born in the pristine, southern city of Savannah, Georgia. He trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of 12 at a Bobby Richardson Crusade, and at the age of 17 he surrendered his life to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Susie grew up in historic northern Virginia, and was saved at the age of 15 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Fairfax. They met while at Bible college and were married on August 9, 1975. God has blessed them with six children: Jason, Dixie, Tara, Georgia, Nathan, and Jonathan.

After graduating from Bible college, the Herrings spent the next 30 years ministering in south Georgia. During that time, Dean spent 8 years as a youth minister, 2 years in evangelism, and 20 years as a pastor. Before moving to Idaho, Dean had the privilege of establishing the Heritage Baptist Church of Glennville, Georgia, where he pastored for 14 years. He has ministered at numerous youth camps, and family/marriage conferences, along with preaching several revivals across America each year.
After a visit to the Treasure Valley, God began to impress upon the hearts of the Herring Family that He wanted them to move to the area and plant a Baptist church. They obeyed. In November of 2005, they bid farewell to their friends and loved ones, and moved to Idaho to begin the work that God had led them to do. They love it here and are very excited about South Valley Baptist Church! |
